In 1878, the unfortunate death of Mr Brooks’ horse led to a stroke of inspiration. Unable to afford another horse, he borrowed a bicycle in order to commute to work. But he found the seat so uncomfortable that he vowed to do something about it. On 28 October 1882, Mr Brooks filed his first saddle patent. The company has become known and respected for its beautiful leather handcrafted saddles. Brooks bicycle saddles have a reputation for comfort and beauty that has been earned in over a hundred years of continuous production. The Brooks firm, located in Birmingham, England, employs around 20 people in the manufacture of fine, handcrafted bicycle saddles. There are saddles for racing , saddles for cruising, and saddles for all types of riding in between.
